When to Visit Los Cabos: A Seasonal Guide to Paradise
Timing is everything. Depending on whether you want to see 40-ton whales breaching or you’re looking for the best deal on a luxury villa, the “best” time to visit Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo changes with the calendar.
Winter: Peak Wildlife and Perfect Weather
From December through April, the weather is nothing short of spectacular. With daytime highs in the mid-70s to low 80s, it’s the most popular time to visit. This is also peak whale-watching season. Thousands of humpback and gray whales migrate to the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez to give birth. If you stay in a beachfront San Jose del Cabo vacation rental during this time, you can often see them splashing from your own balcony.
Spring: The Sweet Spot
May and June are often considered the “sweet spot” for Baja travel. The winter crowds have thinned out, the spring breakers have headed home, and the weather is warm but not yet humid. This is a fantastic time for snorkeling and diving, as the water temperature begins to rise and visibility is excellent.
Autumn: The Angler’s Dream
October and November are the big months for fishing. Cabo San Lucas hosts some of the world’s richest fishing tournaments, like the Bisbee’s Black & Blue. The town is buzzing with excitement, and the water is at its warmest, making it the best time for surfing and long days on the boat.
A Note on the “Low” Season
August and September are the hottest months and bring the occasional tropical rain. However, for the savvy traveler, this is when you’ll find the best rates on vacation rentals in Cabo San Lucas. If you don’t mind the heat and want a private villa all to yourself, the late summer can be a hidden gem.
