One of our favorite road trips when friends come to visit us is going to Todos Santos. Named “Pueblo Magico” in 2006, Todos Santos is a small coastal town at the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains on the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur. It is about a 45 minute drive along a winding 2 lane highway through the desert and along the coast with a number of places to stop and enjoy the Pacific Ocean. Todos Santos is near the Tropic of Cancer and about an hour south of La Paz, the capital city of Baja California Sur.
Todos Santos thrived as the Baja sugarcane capital during the 19th century. Now the rich farmlands have been cultivated and the town prospers from an abundance of avocado, vegetable and chili farming, papaya and mango orchards, fishing and ranching.
Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz is a mission that was founded in 1723 by father Jaime Bravo. The mission contains the statue of the Virgin of Pilar, which is a focus of the town’s main festival in October.
The area offers a number of beautiful beaches. Playa Las Palmas and Playa Los Cerritos are great for swimming and shell collecting. Cerritos draws surfers from all over the world.
In town there are a number of art galleries, Mexican craft shops, restaurants, boutique hotels and restored colonial buildings. Todos Santos is a great day trip from Cabo or if you prefer to spend more time we can help you with accommodations.
Some of our recommendations include:

No Reported Safety Concerns
In Cabo San Lucas
“You have to make a distinction between the border incidents that are going on and the places like Playacar, Cancun, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, which are exceedingly safe.”
-NBC News
Reported February 26, 2009
Recently, the media has reported several drug cartel skirmishes occurring along the Mexican border. These problems are happening mainly in the border towns of Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez. Due to the increase in cartel activity, the State Department has issued a travel alert for these areas of Mexico. Cabo San Lucas is geographically isolated from these reported problem areas. Located on the southern tip of Baja California, Cabo San Lucas is approximately 1,000 miles from the problem border towns. Cabo San Lucas is a key tourist location where thousands of people from all over the world travel to every year. As a major spring break destination, Cabo San Lucas is visited by thousands of college students annually. Cabo San Lucas is a safe place to vacation but like any travel destination, travelers should exercise common-sense precautions.
