Cabo San Lucas Baja Cantina Group Recognized

Baja Cantina has long been one of our favorite places in Cabo. We have been loyal customers since Jorge, the owner, bought the restaurant about 11 years ago. Since that time Jorge has opened Baja Cantina Beach Club on Medano Beach and Maria Corona in downtown Cabo. Each location is unique but maintains quality food and service. We were pleased to learn of the recent recognition they received in earning the prestigious Cristal Certification Award which guarantees the optimum management of food in restaurants. This particular certification is recognized all over the world and after a period of intense training, all three of Baja Cantina’s Restaurants received it. They are the first group of restaurants in Los Cabos to receive this award.

The awards ceremony was held on Medano Beach and carried out by Marcela Hernandez Ortega, Operations Manager for Cristal International Certification. Ortega stated that the Baja Cantina Group had demonstrated their excellence in the management of food in a short period of time.

Jorge, in his interview, pointed out that it was not just personal pride he felt about receiving the award, but he also thinks it is an incentive for all of the staff to continue doing better and keeping high standards. He continued to point out that a hotel or restaurant can request the certification and that it is obtained through an exhaustive training program. A monthly fee is paid to get supervision that he considered as an investment that assures the best and most healthy preparation of food. He considers the program as an incentive for the personnel. It is not only a personal achievement for personnel l but also a plus for their resumes and opens doors in the gastronomic industry around the world.

Those who received the award were: Guillermo Valadez, Ismael Quintero and Alejandro Castro from Baja Cantina Marina, Jesus Sandoval, Miguel Madrigal and David Hernandez from Maria Corona ad Tomas Burgoin and Omar Visaes from Baja Cantina Playa. Jorge’s next goal is to obtain the Distintivo H which is awarded by the Secretary of Tourism. Knowing Jorge, I am sure that goal will be achieved.

Cabo San Lucas’ Best Breakfast

Our favorite place for breakfast, and we are not alone, is Mama’s Royal Cafe located at the corner of Zapata and Hidalgo streets in downtown Cabo San Lucas.  They are known for their “World’s Best French Toast” which is stuffed with cream cheese and topped with bananas or strawberries and pecans, then flambeed with an orange liqueur.  I normally get the Eggs Benedict Eclipse and my husband likes the Chilaquiles.  Recently I stepped out of my normal routine and ordered the scrambled eggs with green chilis and bacon and as always was rewarded with an excellent meal.  The menu at Mama’s is extensive with over 40 varieties of omelets, American-style breakfasts, crepes, blintzes, pork chops, and more.  There is a full bar and even though we enjoy the Bloody Mary’s their coco orange mimosa is the signature drink.  There is seating inside and out on the colorful patio and most of the time there is a guitarist on site serenading.

Hours are Daily 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM

Next time you are in Cabo make sure you stop at Mama’s Royal Cafe for the BEST breakfast in town!
