Christmas Traditions in Mexico

Mexico is rich with culture and tradition. The custom of putting up a Christmas tree is popular but the real Mexican tradition is setting up a nativity scene. The scenes are set up throughout the month but the figure of Baby Jesus is not put in the manger until December 24. The three kings traditionally, are added on January 5.

Here is the nativity currently on display at the town square in San Jose del Cabo and please note Baby Jesus is not there!

My Vacation at Villa Cielito

I recently had the opportunity to spend 2 nights at Villa Cielito, a beautiful 7 bedroom Cabo vacation villa located at Chileno Bay just outside of Cabo San Lucas. Villa Cielito offers a relaxing vacation opportunity in a beautiful setting.

The breakfast they prepared was fabulous and included fresh fruit, delicious pancakes, bacon, eggs, beans, tortillas, pico de gallo, juice and coffee. Both mornings we chose to eat at one of the outside palapas while enjoying lapping waves on the beach and the beauty of the morning.

Being located on Chileno Bay is a great advantage as this is one of Cabo’s best swimming beaches. There is daily activity on the beach but does not interfere with the tranquility of this home. Several kayaks are on site for guests and a 42 ft. fishing boat is available at a discounted rate. Enjoy the activity on Chileno Beach, the large pool and spa at the home, relax in one of the hammocks under the palapa or retreat to the other side of the home to a private beach.

Cabo San Lucas Fun

La Princesa Sunset Cruise

Last night we enjoyed the La Princesa Sunset Cruise with members of our Cabo management staff. It was a fun night for all. The cruise took us out of the marina to the bay area, over near the arch and then out to the Pacific Ocean for an always beautiful sunset. Service was great with a fun atmosphere.

Leaving the dock we caught this pair of buddies on a jet ski cruising the marina.

We experienced some rock and rolling in the bay area with some decent sized swells , something I had never seen. Usually the bay is very calm. The surf at the Arch and Land’s End was fierce and spectacular. In all the times I have been on the water in these areas I had never seen surf like this.

Next time you think about a Sunset Cruise in Cabo San Lucas, think La Princesa.

Mexican Independence Day

Independence Day is celebrated in all of Mexico and by people of Mexican origin throughout the world on September 16. This day commemorates the 16th September 1810 in the small town of Dolores, in the province of Guanajuato in Mexico, when a small group of people were summoned by a parish priest to take up arms against the Spanish colonial government – the Viceroyalty of New Spain. This fight for independence ended 350 years of Spanish rule.

Even today, the church bell that was used to call people to revolt hangs in the National Palace in Mexico City and is rung on the eve of 16th September each year by the President of Mexico. The celebration includes parades and fairs and the festivities always involve traditional antojitos, best described as finger foods, Mexican candis and punch. Punch, or Ponche is a drink made from fruits that are in season such as guayabas, sugarcane, raisins and apples. Mariachi bands are also part of the celebration.
