I recently had lunch with friends at the new Healthy Restaurant, Wine and Bar. It was recommended to me from Patty in our Baja Sur Property Management office in Cabo She had been and told me I must try it. My friends, Kate and Monte had also heard about it so we agreed now was the best time to try this new (open for 2 months) restaurant in Cabo.

Healthy Restaurant, Wine and Bar is located just 1 block up Hidalgo from the Town Square and on the side street across from the OXXO market. It is a one way street so you can’t turn right at the OXXO market. Instead travel up one more block to where the school is located and take a right here, then the first right and the next first right which will bring you around the block. The restaurant will be on your left.

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, welcoming staff and a good menu. Panaco, the owner, greeted us upon arrival as well as Sergio the waiter. Everything is organic, healthy and tasty. I had the red salad which was a mixture of greens, fresh raspberries, fresh strawberries and grilled chicken. Panaco let me try the Chipotle dressing and the Dijon mustard dressing. I can’t choose which one I liked better, both were good. Monte selected the sirloin burger and reported it was very good. Kate chose something off the dinner menu, the grilled fillet with drunken sauce and thought it was great.

Pancho’s Restaurant

Pancho’s Restaurant and Tequila Bar is located in the heart of Cabo San Lucas. Years ago when John and Mary Bragg moved from California to Cabo they were fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in the Baja. One year after moving to Cabo they opened Pancho’s.

The restaurant was recently remodeled to allow seating for up to 170 people in its main dining room and private patio. Named for the legendary Pancho Villa, the restaurant is all that you would want in a beautiful Mexican Restaurant. Bright and cheery, Mary uses colorful, Mexican table linens, fresh flowers and candles on the tables, “papel picado” in rainbow colors hanging from the ceiling, and fabulous murals and paintings to create this impressive and friendly restaurant ambiance.

This restaurant is a favorite among tourists and a must visit if you haven’t been there before.

Cabo Cocktails

Amanta Picante

This drink was specially created for Cabo Wabo by Las Vegas mixologist Francesco Lafranconi.

3 English cucumber slices, peeled
Fresh cilantro
¾ oz agave nectar
¾ oz fresh lime juice
Ice
1 ½ oz Cabo Wabo Reposado
3 drops Green Tabasco

Muddle cucumber, cilantro, agave nectar, and lime juice in a pint glass. Add ice, tequila, and Tabasco. Shake vigorously and double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with either a lime or cucumber wheel.

Cabo San Lucas Baja Cantina Group Recognized

Baja Cantina has long been one of our favorite places in Cabo. We have been loyal customers since Jorge, the owner, bought the restaurant about 11 years ago. Since that time Jorge has opened Baja Cantina Beach Club on Medano Beach and Maria Corona in downtown Cabo. Each location is unique but maintains quality food and service. We were pleased to learn of the recent recognition they received in earning the prestigious Cristal Certification Award which guarantees the optimum management of food in restaurants. This particular certification is recognized all over the world and after a period of intense training, all three of Baja Cantina’s Restaurants received it. They are the first group of restaurants in Los Cabos to receive this award.

The awards ceremony was held on Medano Beach and carried out by Marcela Hernandez Ortega, Operations Manager for Cristal International Certification. Ortega stated that the Baja Cantina Group had demonstrated their excellence in the management of food in a short period of time.

Jorge, in his interview, pointed out that it was not just personal pride he felt about receiving the award, but he also thinks it is an incentive for all of the staff to continue doing better and keeping high standards. He continued to point out that a hotel or restaurant can request the certification and that it is obtained through an exhaustive training program. A monthly fee is paid to get supervision that he considered as an investment that assures the best and most healthy preparation of food. He considers the program as an incentive for the personnel. It is not only a personal achievement for personnel l but also a plus for their resumes and opens doors in the gastronomic industry around the world.

Those who received the award were: Guillermo Valadez, Ismael Quintero and Alejandro Castro from Baja Cantina Marina, Jesus Sandoval, Miguel Madrigal and David Hernandez from Maria Corona ad Tomas Burgoin and Omar Visaes from Baja Cantina Playa. Jorge’s next goal is to obtain the Distintivo H which is awarded by the Secretary of Tourism. Knowing Jorge, I am sure that goal will be achieved.
