Diving Cabo San Lucas

If you are a diver there are a number of areas in Los Cabos that are popular and provide for great diving experiences.

Cabo Pulmo, is a popular dive spot located on the East Cape and is for beginner divers,(30 ft) and advanced divers (100 ft) as well.  2 hours east of San Jose then 5  minutes by boat is where you will find the only living coral reef in the Sea of Cortez.
Land’s End at the famous arch in Cabo San Lucas is for intermediate – advanced divers (50ft-60ft).  Five  minutes by boat from the Cabo marina and you are swimming with sea lions and moray eels.  A sunken boat can be seen in the Falls.
The Sand Falls diving spot is located in Cabo San Lucas and just a short boat ride from shore.  This spot is for beginnersand advanced divers alike.  Steep sand banks go down sharply into a canyon filled with tropical fish.  The canyon runs from the depths of Cabo San Lucas Bay to within 30 ft of shore, making the Cabo Bay one of the deepest in the world.

Pelican Rock is for beginners at 25 ft – 80 ft and attracts many tropical fish.  Just a 5 minute boat ride from the Cabo Marina and you are swimming among the fish.

Neptune’s Finger, commonly referred to as an upside down Baja Peninsula, is just 5 minutes from the marina.  This spot is for advanced divers and offers a spectacular canyon wall dive.

Gordo Banks is another spot for advanced divers (110ft-120ft) located about an hour boat ride from La Playita.  There is a seamount where you can see Marlin, Skip Jacks, Hammerheads and at times large Manta Rays.

Las Salinas is located about one hour 15 minutes by boat from Cabo San Lucas or one hour by boat from La Playita.  This spot is for beginners (30ft-45 ft).  Las Salinas offers a sunken Japanese fishing boat that attracts a large assortment of fish.

Blow Hole is for beginners to advanced divers (30ft-70ft) and is a 35 minute boat ride from Cabo San Lucas or 10 minutes from Chileno beach.  Rocky valleys present a variety of fish.

Chileno Bay is a 20 ft – 40ft dive and can be reached by tour boat in 35 minutes or by car in 15-20 minutes.  This spot offers sandy and rocky bottom diving with loads of turtles and tropical fish.  Night dives are also available at this site.

El Gavilan is an intermediate to advanced dive site with 70ft- 100 ft dives and about 35 minutes from Cabo San Lucas. This spot offers a rocky ledge leading into a canyon where groupers and larger fish are often sited.

Cabeza de Ballena is for beginners and is about a 25 minute boat ride.  The dive is through large boulders with lots
of fish.

Santa Maria Cave is for beginners and is a 35 minute boat ride or you can dive from the beach which is about 15 – 20 minutes from downtown Cabo.  The entrance to Santa Maria Canyon has a huge variety of fish that will eat right from your hand.

Cabo San Lucas Restaurants-Lorenzillo’s Lobster House

Lobster anyone?  Lorenzillo’s is our first choice!  This charming live lobster house with its nautical theme is a favorite among those who visit Cabo.  A sister restaurant to the original in Cancun, Lorenzillo’s features a fabulous sea-food heavy menu including yellowfin tuna, abalone carpaccio, panfried crab cakes and a variety of lobster dishes.  Lobster is offered more than a dozen ways with seating inside or under the stars on the deck.

Lorenzillo’s is located  on Blvd. Lazaro Cardenas, Cabo San Lucas Marina and is open daily noon to 11:30 PM.  Major credit cards are accepted.  For reservations call: 105-0212
Lorenzillo’s has been awarded the Star Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences and the Restaurant Enterprise Merit Award.  Make sure Lorenzillo’s is one of your stops while enjoying your Cabo vacation!

Cabo San Lucas Cultural Center

The brand new Cabo San Lucas Cultural Center, on the marina in downtown Cabo, officially opened last month to much fanfare.  The mayor, Mirna Xibille and Governor Narcisco Agundez led in the opening to 600 invited guests.  Governor Agundez had vowed to open the center before his term expired and this was accomplished with just three days to spare!  There is a plaque bearing the governor’s name that was unveiled during the ceremony.  In addition, a huge marlin statue was presented as a gift to the city from Mr. & Mrs. Marco Eherenberg, owners of Pisces Fishing Fleet and Pisces Real Estate.  The cultural center will house international cultural events and is expected to be an important tourist attraction.
