Cabo San Lucas Golf Tourney to Benefit the Humane Society

Paws_2011_AD_Small[2]

On April 3rd, the 6th annual Paws & Claws Golf Tournament benefiting The Los Cabos Humane Society will tee off at the popular Puerto Los Cabos Golf Course.  The cocktail and dinner party following the tournament will be held seaside at Campestre Beach Club.  Your golf ticket includes two 18-hole rounds of golf, dinner and cocktails for $350.  Cocktails and dinner tickets only $100.  The Los Cabos Humane Society relies on this event to fund several months of the annual budget needed to keep the Shelter and programs operational.

Throughout the years, the core of attention has been to aggressively manage the fertility and health issues that plague the stray animal community.  The key to controlling the numbers is through a spay and neuter campaign.  This year efforts have been expanded by moving mobile clinics out into the communities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose and  sterilizing “on-site” for people with no means of transportation.  In addition mobil clinics are there to educate and even euthanize sick dogs in pain that may threaten the well-being of surrounding children and adults.

In 2010 the Los Cabos Humane Society performed over 3,000 sterilization surgeries on dogs and cats living in low-income neighborhoods.  In order to promote the concept, the education committee held workshops in schools where they spoke with 1,500 school children about the benefits of sterilizing their family pets and the care and kindness due all animals.

The goal set for 2011 is to double these numbers by sterilizing 6,000 dogs and cats and by bringing educational workshops to a minimum of 2,500 children.

To continue the momentum the society has achieved with nearly 15 years of dedication to the community, the Los Cabos Humane Society needs your help.

The Los Cabos Humane Society receives no funding beyond the support received from people like you.   They have the facility, the staff and the organization in place to reach their goals, but need your help to keep it operational for another year.

If you will be in Cabo please plan to attend the benefit on April 3rd and meet some of the dogs and cats available for adoption.  If you cannot attend, there is an animal sponsorship available for $250, Tee sponsorships for $500 and Hole sponsorships for $1,000.  These will be prominently displayed on the golf course and at dinner.   If you can not be a sponsor, they are always in need of food, litter, cleaning supplies, towels, blankets and will gladly take them to the Shelter for you.
All U.S. citizens receive tax deductible receipts accepted by the IRS for their donation.  Mexican citizens receive receipts recognized by Hacienda.

Places on the Baja Peninsula

Loreto

When driving the Baja between Phoenix and Cabo San Lucas one of our favorite stops is Loreto, located on the Sea of Cortez side of the Baja Peninsula.  Loreto was founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries and was the first Spanish settlement on the east coast of Baja California.  Loreto served as the capital of the province of Las Californias from 1697 until February 3, 1777.

Today, Loreto is a tourist resort with daily flights arriving at the Loreto International Airport.  Tourists enjoy great fishing and the beautiful Sea of Cortez.  There is an excellent museum in town beside the historic, active parish.  The Spanish Fathers found a steady spring of fresh water on this site.

The climate is hot and humid with loads of sunshine.  Average temperature is 76 except June through October where the average temperature is 93 and higher humidity.

We have stayed at the Posada de Las Flores, our favorite, and the La Pinta.  There are other options as well as private home rentals.  We have always found Loreto a beautiful, clean town with warm people and great food!  If you get the opportunity to visit Loreto, take it.
