Misiones de Kino Casa Bella

Having lived in Cabo San Lucas the past 10 years I’m still amazed by the number of quality restaurants available.  A large number of tourist’s favorites exist but we’ve discovered some jewels that you might not hear about as often.   One of my favorites is Misiones de Kino Casa Bella.  Located just up the side street from the Mar de Cortez Hotel on the corner of V. Guerrero and 5th de Mayo, this restaurant offers a diverse menu, plenty of atmosphere and great service.  There is a small cozy bar at its center and intimate dining surrounding the bar.  My husband enjoys the Tortilla Soup and Spicy Shrimp and Sausage Diablo.  My favorite is the Spinach Pear Medley Salad and Chicken Kabob. Misiones de Kino is always on our list when friends and family visit us in Cabo.

Art & Beer – A “Must See” in Cabo San Lucas

Art and Beer Cabo San LucasA must see is Art and Beer located on Highway 19 at Km 69 a few miles south of Pescadero on the way to Todo Santos.  Set in the desert on the ocean side of the highway are a group of palapas that house Art and Beer.  Art is on display in the palapas with a bar and outside eating area, complete with hammocks.  Enjoy a cold beer or try a liquid form of art by ordering a  Bloody Mary, Sangria or Mojito. Art and Beer is run by Lourdes Campos and her partner Alfredo Ruiz who are on site and will share the history of Art and Beer if asked.  In addition to art work for sale there is a small selection of t-shirts, aprons, CDs and etc.  No phone or internet access but you don’t want to miss it!

September 2009 Events in Cabo San Lucas

September Events:
September 1-31:  Baja Sea Turtle Rescue
Join Baja and Beyond on this five-day adventure where you’ll experience first-hand, the enjoyment and satisfaction of assisting an endangered species, the Olive Ridley sea turtle, as it makes its way to sea.

The 1000-acre Rancho San Cristobal Nature Reserve, a beautiful sandy beach along the Pacific Ocean just north of Baja’s Cabo San Lucas, is the venue for this unique and exciting program. We’ll search for turtles at night as they lay their eggs, then transfer the eggs to a protected nursery. There will be opportunities to release hundreds of tiny hatchlings to sea.

The camp is sponsored by ASUPMATOMA, a non-profit agency designed to protect the environment and the sea turtle in southern Baja California.

Join us for an experience you’ll never forget!
September 16:  Mexico Independence Day
Fireworks, fold dancing, mariachi bands, parades, speeches and family picnics

America’s Cup Sailing – Cabo San Lucas

America’s Cup Sailing
Anytime I can get out on the water I am a pretty happy camper.  Cabo Adventures offers a variety of tours but one of my favorites is the America’s Cup Ultimate Sailing Experience.  This three hour tour is informative, fun, and a race all rolled in to one.  The professional racing crew are from all over the world and will share their experiences.  As part of the tour you are part of the crew, tacking, jibing, grinding the winches and hoisting the sales as you race against another America’s Cup boat.  These long carbon fiber ultra light sailboats, Team New Zealand NZL 81 and NZL 82, are some of the fastest yachts in the world.  For those who don’t want to participate in the work out of the race a 2 hour Sunset Sailing tour is offered.  Either way don’t miss the opportunity to be aboard one of these beautiful boats.
